Some of TGB’s aluminum design projects are listed below.

Highway Bridge Decks

Designed and analyzed aluminum highway bridge decks, including:

„ Developing fabrication and erection plans and troubleshooting these operations in the fabrication shop and the field

„ Planning, monitoring, analyzing results, and writing reports on static and fatigue tests of decks conducted at national and private sector research laboratories

„ Writing technical product literature, including design examples, an operations and maintenance manual, and a documentation file for the deck’s structural design

„ Attending meetings of the AASHTO Subcommittee on Bridges and Structures to answer questions related to aluminum structural design from state bridge engineers and assist in the development of standard design specifications

Inspection of the Sykesville, MD Aluminum Bridge

Inspected the 40 year-old aluminum bridge to evaluate its condition and suggest repair procedures

Exhibition Trusses

Performed professional engineering design calculations for aluminum trusses used in exhibitions

LNG Tank Roofs

Provided conceptual design alternatives for aluminum roofs for inner tanks containing liquefied natural gas and evaluated the suitability of materials at cryogenic temperatures

Geodesic Domes

Provided professional engineering review of various clear span aluminum dome roof structure designs and evaluated existing installations

Aluminum Fans

Analyzed fatigue failures of large aluminum fans used in freezers and redesigned them to increase service life

Welded Bicycle Frames

Analyzed fatigue test failure of 7xxx series aluminum alloy welded bicycle frames

Renovation of the United States Botanic Garden, Washington, DC

Inspected fabrication and erection of the aluminum-frame conservatory and reviewed drawings for compliance with structural aluminum standards and specifications

Design of Truck Trailer Landing Gear

Assisted with design of tractor trailer aluminum landing gear in conformance with Association of American Railroads standards

Lorber Conservatory

Performed structural design of conservatory in Westwood, MA
